Initial Thoughts about Writing
In teaching young children to write, it was initially thought the best practice was to write words and phrases in isolation while writing and spelling systems were understood (Christie, 2013). Recently, work supported by the Primary English Teaching Association of Australia (PETAA) has shown that the most effective way for young children to write is when students are actively constructing their own texts with the aid of teachers and helpers assisting by scribing for them (Christie, 2013).
